ABOUT THE GOPRO MOUNTAIN GAMES

The GoPro Mountain Games started as a local whitewater event in 2002. Over the past 20+ years the event has grown into the best all-around mountain experience anywhere in the world. The GoPro Mountain Games is a 4-day celebration of Athletes, Art, Music and Mountains that takes place each June in VAIL, COLORADO.  We celebrate the human spirit and the pursuit of adventure. We celebrate sport & competition. We celebrate kindness and family. We celebrate creativity and the power of music. We celebrate the awesomeness of dogs. We celebrate our environment. We celebrate the Mountains.

Each year, thousands of pro and amateur adventure athletes converge upon the mountains and rivers of Vail to compete in 11 adventure sport disciplines and more than 30 competitions including kayaking, running, slackline, DockDogs, rafting, SUP’ing, mountain and road cycling, climbing, fishing, disc golf, and more. The total cash prize purse distributed each year exceeds $135,000, however, you do not need to be gunning for the podium to participate. Event competition is open to Pros and Joes of ALL AGES AND ABILILITIES.  And if burning lungs at an altitude of 8000’+ isn’t your thing, come for the Festival environment and immerse yourself in all that the Mountain Games and Vail have to offer.

The competitions are just the beginning. The event also features a variety of art, the CoLab Creator Stage, over 100 sponsor activations and the Mountains of Music concert series. Mountains of Music consists of free live music on multiple temporary stages each day followed by large, ticketed concerts at the beautiful Gerald Ford Amphitheater on Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights.

The Mountain Games are owned and operated by the non-profit Vail Valley Foundation, which has a mission to provide leadership in arts, athletics, and education and address community needs to enhance our Valley as a place to live, work, and visit.
