Rules

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
  • Fat Tire Bike
    • Need fat tire bike? The Vail Nordic Center has a limited amount of fat tire bikes available for rental. Be sure to call 970.476.8366 for more information.
  • All bikes must have tires that are a minimum of 3.8” wide on both the front and rear wheel.
  • Helmets are required for all participants. No exceptions.
  • Studded tires and e-bikes are not allowed on the course.
FORMAT AND RULES
  • Racers will be sent out in wave starts based on age/category. Start positions within each category will not be pre-determined and it is up to the athlete to get into desired start location. 
  • The Winter Mountain Games fat tire bike course is made up of a 6 mile long loop and a 3 mile short loop. Number of loops will be determined by category. 
  • Athletes will follow BLUE course marking signs. 
  • Athletes must remain on the course at all times. No shortcutting. Athletes will be disqualified for not staying on the designated trail. 
  • Course changes may occur at any time based on weather and current conditions. 
  • There will be one aid station at the start/finish area where water and sports drink will be provided. 
  • Competitors who start significantly after the posted start time will still be clocked from the wave start time. No exceptions will be made.
