Rules
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
- Snowshoes
- Need snowshoes? The Vail Nordic Center has a limited amount of snowshoes available for rental. Be sure to call 970.476.8366 for more information
FORMAT & RULES
- Racers will be sent out in a single mass start. Start positions will not be pre-determined and it is up to the athlete to get into desired start location.
- The Winter Mountain Games snowshoe course is a 5K loop. All athletes competing in the 10K will complete two laps.
- Athletes will follow RED course marking signs.
- Athletes must remain on the course at all times. No shortcutting. Athletes will be disqualified for not staying on the designated trail.
- Course changes may occur at any time based on weather and current conditions.
- The race loop has several road crossings that will be marked with signage. Racers should use caution in these areas.
- All athletes are required to wear snowshoes. Spikes, Yak Trax and other similar devices will not be allowed.
- Athletes will race on the marked course. Along the course, athletes will encounter all types of terrain ranging from groomed trails, to single track to ungroomed powder fields.
- There will be one aid station at the start/finish area where water and sports drink will be provided.
- No tripping, shoving or horseplay will be tolerated and any athlete participating in foul play will be pulled from the course and disqualified.
- Competitors who start significantly after the posted start time will still be clocked from the mass start time. No exceptions will be made.
- Dogs are not permitted to run in the 5K or 10K snowshoe event. Please enter the Dog Derby 5K on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 2PM if you prefer to participate with your pooch.
